Job Summary: Performs PM maintenance and repairs on Tribal Vehicles and Equipment.

Compensation: $42,203 annually
 

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • ASE Auto maintenance & Light repair Certification (A1 - A9) **will allow seven (7) years’ experience in lieu of education.
     

Experience:

  • Must have five (5) years’ experience repairing vehicles and equipment
     

Skills Testing:

  • Automotive question and answer. (Test Required)
     

Prerequisites:

  • Must have and maintain a valid Washington State Class B Driver’s License.
  • Must adhere to the Tribal Insurance Policy. (Abstract Required)
  • Must be able to pass an agility exam with at least a “medium” rating, to determine if physically capable of performing job duties.
  • The Tulalip Tribes requires different levels of pre-employment background screening for all positions. Employment is contingent upon successful passing of these background checks.
  • No alcohol or drug related criminal conviction within six (6) months
  • No Suspension, Last Chance Agreement (LCA), Dismissal or Demotion within six (6) months.
     

Job Requirements:

  • Must be computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint software programs.
  • Must maintain an attendance of 90% of scheduled work hours and is punctual.
  • Ability to analyze and diagnose vehicles and take effective action.
  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as DOT safety rules and regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, Along with service and procedure manuals.
  • Must have the ability to operate scan tools. 
  • Must know how to use proper tools and have ability to perform routine maintenance, basic vehicle and equipment repair.
  • Ability to comply with safety regulations and environmental laws.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationship with co-workers.
  • Ability to work in sometimes stressful environment and have the tolerance and patience to deal with upset, angry, and/or frustrated people.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as needed or requested.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and put forth best efforts in working with department staff and community.
     

Physical Ability:

  • Frequently required to sit and talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to complete inspections and work where climbing, stooping, light lifting, and working in confined areas may be required.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to heavy and it may regularly be loud. Due to the busy nature of the auto garage, the employee must be able to routinely work well under pressure and remain calm and tactful with staff members.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Stamina & mobility to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time, to bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally stoop, and/or climb stairs and to walk in a variety of terrain.

Employee Supervises: None
 

Extent of Job Authority: Inspects, service and repairs of all Tribal vehicles and equipment. Performs a variety of skilled mechanical tasks on automotive and construction equipment and performs other related work as required.
 

Specific Duties Performed:

  1. Change oil, filters, and greases all equipment.
  2. Completes all necessary documentation in a neat and timely manner.
  3. Flushes vehicle radiators and brings antifreeze to designated level.
  4. Maintains and installs all electrical components, such as directional lights, safety warning lights, starting and charging systems, etc., on all types of vehicles.
  5. May change tires and balance wheels.
  6. May perform minor welding repair.
  7. May repair vehicle body and chassis parts using hand and power tools, and install and repair power take-off equipment such as cranes and hoists.
  8. Must also be able to operate the backhoe and forklift.
  9. Observes all proper safety precautions
  10. Packs wheel bearings.
  11. Performs brake work, tune-ups, exhaust system repair, and other similar repairs.
  12. Performs necessary inspection and repairs to bring vehicles into compliance with emission control standards and provides certification.
  13. Performs other mechanical work as required.
  14. Performs preventive maintenance work on automobiles, trucks, construction equipment and machinery.
  15. Performs prescribed activities efficiently with limited supervision.
  16. Reacts productively to interruptions and changing conditions
  17. Replaces universal joints as required.
  18. Maintains all generators and the records as necessary.
  19. Must have the ability to operate a variety of scan tools and soft wear in the automotive repair industry
  20. Performs other job related duties as required or directed.
     

Terms of Employment: This is a Regular Full-time position requiring 40 hours per week or 2080 hours per year.
